ForeFlight is the most popular EFB for Stratux users. Here’s how to get the most out of it.
What you should see connected: - ✅ ADS-B Weather - ✅ ADS-B Traffic - ✅ GPS (if enabled) - ✅ AHRS (if equipped)
| Stratux GPS | iPad GPS | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| ✅ Use | ❌ Disable | WiFi-only iPad, synthetic vision, best AHRS integration |
| ❌ Don’t use | ✅ Use | iPad with cellular GPS, prefer iPad position |
To configure: 1. ForeFlight → More → Devices 2. Tap on Stratux 3. Toggle “Use as GPS source”
If your iPad has no GPS (WiFi-only model), you must use Stratux GPS. Otherwise you have no position.
ForeFlight’s synthetic vision works with Stratux AHRS. Requirements: - Stratux with AHRS installed - AHRS properly calibrated - ForeFlight Pro Plus or higher subscription
Enable: 1. ForeFlight → More → Settings 2. Scroll to “Synthetic Vision” 3. Enable
IMPORTANT: Synthetic vision is for situational awareness only. It is NOT certified for instrument flight. Keep your scan on real instruments.
ForeFlight shows traffic in a vertical “bubble”: - Default: ±3,500 feet around you - Adjustable in settings
If you’re seeing too much traffic, adjust the filter. If traffic seems to disappear, check you haven’t filtered it out.
ForeFlight can hide traffic beyond a certain range. Check: 1. ForeFlight → More → Settings 2. Look for traffic display options
Weather from Stratux shows in ForeFlight’s map layers: - NEXRAD — radar imagery - METARs — airport conditions (colored dots) - TFRs — temporary flight restrictions - PIREPs — pilot reports
Enable layers: 1. Tap the layer icon (stacked squares) on map 2. Toggle desired weather products
Remember: FIS-B weather only works at altitude. On the ground, layers may be empty.
Known issue: ForeFlight sometimes uses pressure altitude instead of GPS altitude for ownship.
Fix: In Stratux settings (http://192.168.10.1), try toggling “ownship” settings or disable pressure altitude correction.
That’s TIS-B echoing your own aircraft. Filter your hex code in Stratux settings. See: TIS-B and Ghost Aircraft
The red X means AHRS data is invalid. Causes: - Stratux moved during flight (recalibrate) - Extreme maneuvers - AHRS not calibrated after installation
Fix: Go to http://192.168.10.1 → AHRS → Set Level (aircraft must be wings level)
ForeFlight has its own AHRS calibration in addition to Stratux’s: 1. ForeFlight → More → Devices 2. Tap Stratux 3. Find AHRS calibration option
Do both: calibrate in Stratux web UI AND in ForeFlight.
ForeFlight can receive traffic and weather from Stratux even without internet — the data comes directly via WiFi from the Stratux.
However, ForeFlight needs downloaded charts/plates for navigation. Always download your route area before flight.
If you have a cellular iPad, it has GPS built in. If Stratux fails: 1. Disconnect from Stratux WiFi 2. Connect to cellular or hotspot for weather 3. iPad GPS provides position
This gives you a fallback navigation capability.
ForeFlight + Stratux is a powerful combination. Take time to configure it properly and you’ll have excellent situational awareness.
